Varsity Players Volunteer at Monroe Community Hospital

My son Sean Hickey, along with friends, Cameron Corsaro and Kyle Morabito complete their community service hours here at Monroe Community Hospital. When Coach Chinappi found out about this he asked if the varsity hockey team could come and volunteer during the Christmas break, which I set up. After an early practice, the players came to the facility to participate in a game of BINGO. First they had to go to all the nursing units and transport the residents down to the Brass Chandelier Room. During the game, each player sat with a resident or two and helped them with their BINGO card. Ryan O’Shea was in charge of the prize cart. When someone had a BINGO, Ryan would take the cart over to the resident so they could pick out a prize. The boys seemed to enjoy themselves and I know the residents loved having them in their “home”.

One resident even stated how she would prefer watching a hockey game to playing BINGO. After the game was over, and the residents were all back to their units, the boys talked about coming back again. I know the boys cannot even fathom the amount of joy they brought to the residents that night. I have attached 2 pictures of the players and the residents while playing the BINGO game.

Thanks to Coach Chinappi for bringing the players to MCH and thanks to the players for being such good sports. The Aquinas family should be very proud of these young men as they represented what the school stands for. “Our mission is to teach all students goodness, discipline, and knowledge, supported through gospel values, within a comprehensive curricular and co-curricular program that will prepare them to be responsible and caring citizens.”
